San Bernadino Mountain Fire

The Grass Valley Fire has burned 1,100 acres and is 70 percent contained. More than 100 homes have been destroyed. There are nearly 800 firefighters working on that blaze, and they hope to have full containment by Sunday.

The Slide Fire is 10 times bigger than the Grass Valley Fire and has burned more than 11,000 acres. It was just 15 percent contained Friday morning, but that was up from zero containment 24 hours earlier. More than 200 homes have been destroyed, and more than 1,300 firefighters from across the country are involved in that fight.

Damage assessment put the number of homes destroyed in Grass Valley at 113; 80 were destroyed in Green Valley Lakes; and more than 100 were destroyed in Running Springs and Fredalba.
